1. Can All Inks Be Used With WINNEO Laser Clichés/Plates?
98% of commercially available inks are compatible. Only a few special exceptions exist. If you have any concerns, consult WINNEO and we will resolve all your doubts. Most standard pad printing inks work equally well on aluminum plates, steel plates and photopolymer resin plates. However, highly abrasive inks (including metallic and ceramic pigmented inks) will rapidly wear down resin plates. For such applications, steel pad printing plates are the better option.
2. What Is “Etch Depth” And Why Does It Matter?
Etch depth refers to the depth of the recessed graphic area inside the plate, generally measured in microns. This parameter controls the ink storage and ink transfer volume of pad printing plates, so etch depth directly impacts the final printing quality.
3. How To Choose Between Deep Etching And Shallow Etching?
The choice mainly depends on the complexity of your print design. Fine lines and intricate graphics require a shallow etch depth to maintain sharpness and precision.
On the contrary, simple logos or solid color areas often need deeper etching to deliver bold, vivid printing results.
4. What Is The Lead Time For WINNEO Laser Plate Making?
Simple graphics can be fully engraved in just 10 minutes. 5. How Should WINNEO Laser Clichés/Plates Be Stored?
Proper storage can drastically extend plate service life. After use, all residual ink must be thoroughly cleaned off both aluminum and steel plates. Store plates in a dry, constant-temperature environment with scratch protection.
Steel pad printing plates require a thin coat of anti-rust oil to prevent oxidation. Store plates flat or upright in dedicated racks or slots — never stack plates directly on top of one another. The etched graphic areas are fragile and prone to scratches or dents from contact with other plates. If stacking is unavoidable, place separators (acid-free paper, foam or plastic sheets) between every plate.
